Windows/Mac/Linux: VLC, one of our favorite video players, has just updated with experimental Handbrake can't rip DVDs on its own; you need VLC installed to provide the necessary DVD decrypting libraries. However, VLC 2.0 changes the code libraries it uses for decrypting, which means. This Mac HD Video Converter can convert videos to best supported codec for editing software, like Apple ProRes 422/4444 codec for Final Cut Pro With this best Handbrake Alternative, you’ll be not disappointed about Handbrake’s bad compatibility with Mac even though it declared that some bugs. I'm trying to save a title from my DVD to an MP4 file on disk. I can save title 1 OK, but for some reason, title 2 crashes VLC. I go into 'Media| Convert/Save', then Disc, I select DVD and 'no disc menus', then I select my DVD drive (E:), title 2, chapter 0, audio -1, and subtitles -1. I click 'Convert/Save', and it generates the source URL dvdsimple:///E:/#2. I type in the path for an MP4 file as the destinatino path, leave the profile as MP4, and click start. VLC's titlebar briefly says 'streaming', and then VLC crashes. If I try to actually play dvdsimple:///E:/#2, it plays fine. Any ideas why it can't convert/save it? By the way, I tried to submit the crash report but VLC crashes when I try to submit it! I'm having a related problem with VLC 2.1.0. I'm trying to rip a commercial DVD so I can watch it on my Galaxy Nexus so I need to convert to MP4. The record is a nice option and produced a great quality.mpg file which is not supported by Android. To produce the required.mp4 file it seems necessary to use either convert or stream. Title 0 is the menu video, and Title 1 is the movie. I'm saving to the harddrive and tried both convert and stream. For profile I'm using 'Video for Android SD High'. The problem is that even though I can play Title 1, the output file is created but it only has 8 or 9 KB and it's not a video. I'm on Win XP. I'm not saving directly to the Galaxy Nexus even though it's connected by USB. I am having the same trouble as Jez9999. Title 1 ripping and converting to.mp4 fine, but crashing when I try to get title 2. I am trying to convert a series of discs, and it occurs with each one. Stream is fine but cannot convert/save title 2. I am running windows 7 pro, SP1, processor=Intel i3-3240 [email protected] VLC version Rincewind 2.1.5. After reading the posts, I have installed Weatherwax 2.2.0. The problem is the same. I can convert/save title 1 from DVD, but not title 2. Crashes every time. I can recreate the problem, I have tried numerous discs with different combinations of settings and have given up trying. Not getting any error messages from 2.2.0. Please let me know if you want more details, as I like VLC and would like to see it thrive. Also love the disc world ref's. Same problem here with Windows 8.1 VLC 2.2.1 My first post! Whilst I have seen quite a few posts about VLC crashing when converting, I haven't found a solution so I hope this post is ok. I have done a lot of experimenting and found the following: Copied two DVDs fine to mp4 for playing on an Android tablet. Super mini USB DVBT-TV tuner for MAC and PC www.ultra-imagination.com. Usb tv tuner for mac mini 4. The 3rd DVD shows the problem consistently. • The title and menu tracks convert/save fine but with the main film track (track #2) VLC bombs out as soon as I click start. It seems to write a few lines to the message window before it closes down and it leaves a 40 byte 'output' file. • It can play the DVD starting at track #2 fine. • Convert/save runs without error starting at track #2 fine with 'Dump Raw Input' but does not leave anything in the output file • Convert/save runs if an audio only profile is selected. • Convert/save runs with a profile where 'keep original video' and 'keep original audio' are set. I saved using raw encapsulation and the resulting file lacked audio, only have a video codec.
